Residents Demand Justice for Euthanized Fox

Posted: Updated:

Friday evening a Minot Police Officer suffered a bite from a fox..and now many residents have taken to the internet to voice their opinions.

The police department received an email saying a fox had bitten someone who had come in contact with the animal. However, residents in the area feel there needs to be more of an explanation.

Later that evening, the fox was euthanized, so it could be tested for rabies.

Minot Police Captain John Klug says the intention was not to pick up the fox and euthanize it. Once an officer was bitten, that changed the situation from potential bite to actual bite.

"We would have gladly removed him from the city. We were already planning on it. Once we found out that the zone we lived in was illegal to have foxes, we were planning on moving him. We just obviously never got the chance. A zoning violation is one thing. I'm happy to pay the citation. Instead my pet lost his life and that is way harder on me than any money loss would ever be," says Tara Hiatt, the owner of the fox.

While this investigation is ongoing, community members continue to speak out. Within two days, more than 9 thousand people have signed a petition on change.org demanding justice for Vader the fox.
