Promoting Early-Childhood Reading

Posted: Updated:
Educational agencies from Bismarck teamed up yesterday to promote early childhood reading.
More than 100 kids came with their families to participate in a day dedicated to combining literature and the fine arts.

Presenters from Theo Arts School, the Gateway to Science and local high schools all had  activities for kids to do highlighting the importance of reading. Sponsored by the South Central reading Council, they say they are hoping the kids will leave with just one thing.

"The love of reading the love of books, and the stories and imagination and just the thrill of cuddling up with your mom or dad or your favorite grandma or grandpa and just enjoying a story because it takes them so far and it's so important to our lives, in everything that we do, reading is so important," says South Central Reading Council President, Jenifer Porter.

Porter says she is hoping to make this an annual event.
