North Dakota Student Association Holds Monthly Meeting

Posted: Updated:
It may be the weekend, but some North Dakota students were hard at work. The North Dakota Student Association held their monthly meeting in Minot this weekend.

The governing body is made up of members of Student Governments from the 11 public Universities in North Dakota.  The Student Association is the voice of over 48 thousand North Dakota students. The group deals with everything from tuition costs to academic policies. Making student concerns known to state legislators is a big responsibility for the Student Association.

"A lot of what is happening in North Dakota is bringing in an influx of this young population and a lot of them right now may be in elementary school," says president of the North Dakota Student Association, Jennifer Vetter. "As they come through their entire education, what we decide today does have an impact on them.  And what we decide this year does impact how we lobby the legislature next year, which sets tuition and fee rates for the next year based on that appropriation.  It's really important that with the explosive growth in North Dakota, that the students have a voice.  There's a lot of money that goes to higher education and we want it to be going to the right services for students."

One of the main areas of focus for the North Dakota Student Association is the development of the Pathways to Success Initiative, which helps regulate tuition and fee modeling and admissions.
