Dalrymple Meets with Cabinet Members

Posted: Updated:

Governor Jack Dalrymple met with members of President Obama's cabinet Sunday to discuss issues that are important to North Dakota.

Dalrymple urged Interior Secretary Sally Jewell to recognize North Dakota's rights to the natural flows of the Missouri River and abandon any plans proposed by the U.S. Army Core of Engineers to restrict or charge a fee for access to the river.

Tribal court and law enforcement issues were also addressed today, including the need for stable tribal courts and the need to improve the sharing of information between tribal law enforcement, and local and state law enforcement agencies.

He told Agriculture Secretary Thomas Vilsack that agricultural services, like flour mills and pasta plants, need timely and reliable railcar service via BNSF Railway and Canadian Pacific Railway.

Later on, he said the North Dakota Energy and Environmental Research Center has the capabilities to advance the technologies needed to capture carbon, then transfer the CO2 emissions to western North Dakota oilfields and use those emissions for enhanced oil recovery.

Dalrymple also led a meeting Sunday to teach other governors about the technologies that have advanced oil development, which have made North Dakota the nation's second-largest oil producing state.
