Don't Buy It Until We Try It: Perfect Bacon Bowl

Posted: Updated:

Calling all bacon lovers, there may be a more creative way to cook bacon to perfection in the oven, toaster or microwave. In this week's "Don't Buy It, Until We Try It," I tried out the Perfect Bacon Bowl.

Hash browns, sausage patties and bacon are on the grill at the Max Café as they prepare for the morning rush of breakfast orders.

"Well, we try not to pile it on. We try to make it look really nice and try not to have the bacon all curled up," says Amy Lawrence, Max Café Manager.

The Perfect Bacon Bowl sells for around $10 and promises to be the easy way to make delicious edible bowls out of bacon within just minutes.

"They look like metal, but they're more of a heavy plastic," says Lawrence.

But, before we could ham it up, we had to read through all of the instructions. We grabbed the tub of bacon and started making our masterpiece.

"Cut the first strip in half, create an 'x' over the top, and wrap the second strip around the it," says Lawrence.

Since we were working with thicker cuts of bacon, we only used a total of two slices instead of three, like the directions call for.

After we formed our Perfect Bacon Bowl, it was finally time to cook in the microwave for two minutes and 30 seconds.

"Okay, that looks good," says Lawrence.

We let the Perfect Bacon Bowl cool off for a few minutes before we removed it from the tin.

Once again, we repeated the same steps in the same bacon bowl, only this time we wanted extra crispy bacon. So, we cooked the bowl for 3 minutes, which wasn't the best idea.

"It doesn't want to come off," says Lawrence.  "It wants to break."

After several failed attempts, the bacon bowl would not come out. So, you'll probably need to wash before you use it again, or not put it in for more than 2 minutes and 30 seconds.

Are we sizzling with the Perfect Bacon Bowl?

"I wasn't quite too sure when I saw it on the infomercial," says Lawrence. "It's a pretty good idea."

If you're looking for a gourmet look with little to no effort, this is definitely a product for you.  It's very easy to use and only takes a few minutes to make. If you're health conscious, the Perfect Bacon Bowl actually helps to drain all of the grease from the bacon. And, it's not just limited to bacon. You can make bread bowls for dips, desserts, and soups.

So, this week's "Don't Buy It, Until We Try It," earns a thumbs up.
