City Manager Candidates Make Final Presentations

Posted: Updated:

Today marks the final day for candidates looking to become the city manager to voice how they can better serve the community.

The last candidate, Cindy Hemphill has an extensive list of previous employment including working in the Department of Defense, the Department of Energy and the Department of Justice. And, she's most recently been the finance director for the city of Minot for the past eight years.

"I believe those have all prepared me for the next phase in my life which would be the city manager position. To be a good city manager whether its in an economic boom or any other time, I believe you have to have leadership skills, you have to be willing to step up front, take responsibility, you have to be visible and you have to be a key communicator," says Cindy Hemphill, finance director.

If Hemphill is chosen to be the next city manager she wants to focus on balancing not only the economic growth, but also overcoming the challenges of the 2011 flood. In order to be competitive as a city, Hemphill says it's important to have the resources and the quality of life for people to come to the city.

"The city of Minot is not just in an economic boom. We have the flood, and I think that that's going to be a huge part, well I don't think, I know its a huge part for the city moving forward. How we go about funding that, and getting that done that's where our partnerships are very key," says Hemphill.

Now, that all three candidates presented their topics, it's now up to the residents turn to add some input. You will be able to find links to all three speeches on the city's website. If residents want to submit public comments, you can email them to pioinminot.org
