Photographer Shoots Oshie's Photos

Posted: Updated:

Millions of people are watching former UND Hockey star TJ Oshie in Sochi as he helps bring team USA closer to the gold. And for at least one of those viewers, seeing him in the Olympics is a surreal experience.

Millions of people saw TJ Oshie take a shot at the winter Olympics.

Now thousands of people are looking at shots taken of him and his fiancee, Lauren Cosgrove in downtown Bismarck.

"I got 6,000 views in two hours and 22,000 views in 24 hours," says photographer Melanie Kuntz.

The photos were ones that she shot in downtown Bismarck back in 2012. A backdrop she uses often for other couples she photographs. She says she's always been a big UND hockey fan so shooting their photos was a unique experience.

"It was very exciting. It was kind of surreal, and it's just been even more exciting now that he went from just a UND hockey player to now a St. Louis Blues NHL Player and now this huge Olympic star that kind of came out of no where," says Kuntz.

As the USA has advanced she has made sure to tune in and cheer Oshie on as he helps bring the team closer to a gold.

"As I was watching, I was just tweeting and texting Lauren that this is so crazy. And she's pregnant, and she's due next month, and I'm like you better not pop, you better just hold off until dad gets home!"says Kuntz.

But regardless of what happens in the final game Melanie says they've already won the gold when it comes to their love.

"They just talk to each other, and they look at each other, and they smile, and laugh at each other. It's the kind of love people dream for," says Kuntz.

Oshie competes for team USA against Canada tomorrow.
