Boston Marathon Runners Return

Posted: Updated:

With snow, ice and negative temperatures North Dakota's winter weather can put a damper on many exercise routines.

Especially for those that are training for specialty races such as marathons. Longer races require a combination of a healthy diet, long runs and conditioning your legs for sprinting through the finish line.

"It's really tough. The biggest factor is almost more so the ice than the actual cold. Usually you can bundle up to handle the cold and run outside. Watching out for ice and the slippery spots is the hardest part because one little slip and your whole marathon is off the table," says Michelle Montoya, Gold's Gym.

This year there is renewed interest in the 118th Boston Marathon after the tragic bombings at the finish line last year. Mary Cate Mannion spoke with a runner in Bismarck who will be making the trip to Boston for the marathon, tonight at 10.
