Minot Narrows City Manager Candidates

Posted: Updated:

From 36 to 3, the city narrowed down its list of candidates for the next city manager. Starting Wednesday, the first of the three candidates stepped up to the podium at the Grand Hotel to speak to the public and the selection committee.

Candidate Greg Sund has always had an interest in local government. After going to college in Wisconsin, he moved to the South Dakota to pursue a career in local government.

During the course of his professional life, Sund has been the city administrator for Spearhead, S.D., the city administrator of Dickinson and is currently serving as the county administrator of Ellis County in Kansas.

"I really enjoy local government, and it's something that is in my heart. It's something that I feel I can make a difference in this profession and by doing that, I can make a difference in the community I serve," says Sund.

Each of the candidates is required to present on how to manage city growth in an economic boom. For Sund, that means paying close attention to the fast growing economy, and anticipating and planning for what happens in the future.

"I would welcome the opportunity to work with the mayor, city council, staff and citizens in managing the current boom, implementing flood protection, implementing plans that are on the table, planning for the future and improving the community in general," he says.

The two other finalists will speak on Thursday and Friday at the Grand Hotel starting at 11:30 a.m. The public is encouraged to attend.
