Minot Car Show

Posted: Updated:

It may have been chilly outside, but for everyone inside the State Fair Center in Minot, minds were on Spring, and good weather for driving and racing.

"Everything from the classic car that was the original way when Grandma and Grandpa bought it, or it's going to be the completely custom car," says Nodak Race Club Vice President, Ryan Sebo. "We've got a car that is 100% custom just like something that was built by Chip Foose."

It was the annual Wild About Wheels Car Show Saturday. The Nodak Race Club teamed up with the Dakota Cruisers and ND Cliff Hangers to showcase this year's track cars, and some unique classics.

"This is for people that are big race fans," says Nodak Race Club Treasurer, Ron Huettl.  "This is their chance to come up and touch the race cars and really look at them."

There are five classes that typically run during the Nodak race season including stock, modified and sprint, all of which were on display.  The show is a way to get spectators, and drivers excited for the upcoming season.

"It's rewarding, for me with the racing stuff it's a lifestyle," says Sebo. "It's no different than the people that are into the hunting and fishing, but for it's its racing as a lifestyle. You take a lot of pride in your race cars and this is one of those times we get to show that off."

But the Wild About Wheels Car Show isn't just about going fast around the track, car lovers got the opportunity to see some of North Dakota's most rare classics.  From Studebakers to Continental Mark 2's, when drivers have classics, they just want to cruise.

The classic cars, I have one here for instance, when I was 14 years old my Dad and I went and looked at one in Pennsylvania," says Dakota Cruisers President, George Masters. "Two to three days later it showed up in our driveway. And I grew up in that car."

Whether it's to race around the track, or take a slow cruise down the road, all drivers have one thing one their mind, good weather.

"It kind of gets you thinking about Spring when it's not so cold out," says Sebo. "You can start thinking, well when I do have spare time I would like to do this, or catch up on a Cruiser function or hit the races, and go there."
