Tech Talk: Online Dating

Posted: Updated:

It seems like everything is moving online these days. There's not much you can't do with the help of the world wide web.

More and more people are meeting online. According to Match.com, 40 million Americans use online dating services. That's 40 percent of the U.S. population. And many people find true love.

It may be a match made in heaven. And they found each other on Match.com. It all started with a wink.

"The thing that really got my attention was her picture," says Timothy Buller.

"He tells me that all the time," says his wife, Kyla.

"She has a beautiful smile," says Timothy.

"Oh my gosh. It was actually a really crazy picture. An old picture where I was just, I don't know. I don't know why he liked that picture. It was really weird. I don't know why he liked that picture, but that's the one he liked," says Kyla.

The Bullers married last year, but not before introducing their six kids. The kids are broken down into three groups.

"Chastyn and Aurianna are the littles. Miah and Evan are the middles. And me and [Brendan] are the bigs," says Jamisen Emineth.

"Everybody who asks about our kids and we tell them, 'Oh, we have six.' And they're like, 'Oh! The Brady Bunch.'  Everybody says that," says Kyla.

They have two girls and four boys. And one more is on the way.

"I think everybody's voting girl. You know, because votes count," says Kyla.

Aurianna says she loves baby girls and hopes her name is Evelyn.

It may be 'happily ever after' for the Bullers. But if you're looking to find your soulmate online, there are a few things you should know.

"First understand how the site works. Do they do background checks on people? You know, obviously, kind of get that first connection online. Do you have some interests in common? And then if you want to meet up, I encourage people to start locally. Go to a coffee shop, go to a restaurant, an informal meeting place, and kind of get that sense of the person," says Dan Hendrickson, BBB.

It's also important to watch for scammers. Hendrickson tells users to avoid moving conversations to a third-party website. And says to never send money or give out credit card information.

"Romance is one of those things. There's no silver bullet. Just be yourself and try to have fun, and be open to new things and meeting new people, but be careful," says Hendrickson.

For the Buller Bunch, online dating was well worth the risk. Match.com helped Kyla and Timothy find their perfect match. And together, they've blended together a beautiful family.
