Judge Sentences Three For Meth Conspiracy

A Fargo judge sentenced three people today in a meth conspiracy case. Juan Cerna, 26, Moorhead, Minn., faces 18 and a half years for conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute and distribution of a controlled substance.

The two co-conspirators were also sentenced for their involvement. Steven Schmidt, 35, will serve five years in prison on the charge of conspiracy and Brandon Elsenpeter, 26 will serve three years of probation.  

The three men were transporting kilogram quantities of meth from Texas where they distributed it in the Fargo-Moorhead area. Co-Conspirators also obtained large amounts of marijuana from the Minneapolis area where it was distributed locally.

Juan's brother, who also was involved, David Cerna Jr., pleaded guilty during trial and will be sentenced April 14.

The case was investigated by Homeland Security Investigations, Drug Enforcement Administration, North Dakota Bureau of Criminal Investigations, Fargo and Moorhead Police Departments and Cass County Drug Task Force.
