It's not Valentine's Day yet, but North Dakotans are still spreading some love today. They're helping to raise millions of dollars for non-profits across the state on Giving Hearts Day.
Even a little bit goes a long way on Giving Hearts Day.
These 25 Bismarck area charities will receive some funding and say it's a huge help.
It's extremely important. It's important not only for the donations which of course we appreciate and our matching funds. But also because it builds a sense of camaraderie between those organizations in the community," says Hollis Mackintosh Heid, Northern Plains Dance.
Dakota Medical Foundation and Impact Foundation started the 24-hour online fundraiser back in 2008 to help out charities statewide.
"They are the heart and soul of North Dakota. The government can do some things but they can't do everything and the non-profits in our state do a really terrific job," says Betsy Dalrymple.
And the two groups match any donation made that's $10 or more.
"It gives donors a chance to support the mission of all those organizations," says Beth Demke, Gateway Mall.
Many of those missions rely on these kinds of fundraiser's to make certain experiences possible.
"The money raised on Giving Hearts Day goes to Northern Plains Dance numerous programs, including our year round classes, our summer camps and workshops, our scholarship program and of course our three main stage productions," says Mackintosh Heid.
"For Gateway to Science, it helps to support our outreach program, and that would be things like our summer camps, our after school clubs, our free pre-school discovery hour and our free family events that we do throughout," says Demke.
Last year, Giving Hearts Day raised nearly $4 million.
