Winter Months Hard on Oil CO's

Posted: Updated:

North Dakota's booming oil industry continues to draw interest from across the country.  The possibility of making $60,000 to $100 thousand per year is attractive to many.  But for Oil and Gas companies, finding employees during the winter months can be challenging.

Tuesday in Minot, several of those Oil and Gas companies with operations in the Bakken held a job fair.  From rig operators to equipment technicians, even biologists, it's a widespread field.  But during the cold winter months, there are less of those perspective employees looking for jobs.  Conditions in the Bakken are harsh.  Many oil field workers come from other states, work during the summer and fall, then leave North Dakota when winter hits.

"There's so many jobs up here right now.  People are hard pressed to find experience out there.  They experienced folks pretty much all already have jobs.  What we run into is hiring a lot of people without industry experience, bring them in, and train them in those positions," said Clayton VanVleet, a Sr. Field Superintendent for EOG Resources.

People looking for employment in the Bakken can visit Dakota Oil Jobs.com to post their resumes.
