Helpline Offers Public Assistance

Posted: Updated:

One call really can do it all. Today is national 211 Awareness Day and the executive director of FirstLink, which controls the helpline wants to remind people of the benefits to remembering those three numbers.

By calling people can get help with anything from crisis intervention, substance abuse services, disaster support and even rent and mortgage assistance.

"You know a lot of times it gets pretty frustrating. You're looking for assistance for a resource and you call a nonprofit agency or a government agency and nope you don't quite qualify. The good thing is we're going to have all that information and we're going to be able to help see if that is a good resource for you and if not we're going to look and try and find another one," says

While representatives at 211 are trained and able to help those considering suicide Miller says it is still reccommended to call the national suicide hotline at 1-800-273-8255 to avoid a possible wait.
