Inside Business: Broadway Grill and Tavern

Posted: Updated:

Carla Pine and her husband Steve knew that they wanted to incorporate an upscale restaurant and lounge into their Broadway Centre development, which includes residential condos, offices and retail space. The Broadway Grill and Tavern opened last week, and one more piece of the project's puzzle is in place.

"Steve and I decided to buy the property here in downtown Bismarck, then decided to do a restaurant and the condos. Its just kind of come together with our chef that we hired," says Carla Pine, owner of Broadway Grill and Tavern.

Pine says they were fortunate to recruit their head Chef, Williston native Cody Monson and his wife Denise. They convinced them to move back to North Dakota from Minneapolis.

"I think probably the biggest thing that we've come to, and I know people have made comments about the food, is that a lot of it is freshly made. Cody makes all his sauces from scratch, all the soups from scratch, all of his condiments and everything," says Pine.

The menu includes items ranging from seared ahi tuna to bison burgers.

"We have probably the best burgers, we have a Broadway burger that everybody seems to really enjoy. We also have grass fed beef," says Pine.

And then there's the wine cellar, which Pine says is one of the most unique features of their restaurant. It can accommodate up to 1,800 bottles.

When warmer weather eventually rolls around, Pine says they will be ready to move the party outside.

"We have a patio outdoors that will have two fire pits on it, and it will seat 72 people," says Pine.

The restaurant is already booked for Valentine's Day, and she is excited about the future.

"We just see it growing, adding more things to the menu, new items to the menu, trying to get some new stuff, fresh stuff," says Pine.

Broadway Grill and Tavern employs about 60 people, and is located at the corner of Broadway and 1st Street in downtown Bismarck.
