Chocolate Offers Health Benefits

Posted: Updated:

Throughout the month we are learning new ways to keep the heart healthy. And keeping that heart in working order could be as simple as opening a Valentine's gift from your sweetheart.

Of course, exercise and a healthy diet are always good. But doctors say if you have a sweet tooth, adding dark chocolate to your diet will help your heart stay on pace.

"Reduced risk of congestive heart failure by about 20percent. Chocolate also lowers your blood pressure by about five points. Dark chocolate also reduces your risk of heart attack and stroke," says Sanford Cardiologist Dr. Richard Howard.

Tonight at 10, medical reporter Mark Charter will tell us why dark chocolate is the way to go instead of other forms.
