Zpass Tracks Students

Posted: Updated:
Some parents say the Zpass system, is a welcome additional safety measure.

Lincoln Elementary School parent, Karalee Harper says, "Just knowing that Bismarck is a growing community. That it's another safety measure to make sure our kids are where they're supposed to be."

But some parents are worried about personal information. What if they lose the card? Is this now putting students in harm's way?

Rick Kramlich, Harlow's Busing Service Operations Manager, says "The only thing that is transmitted is that 6 digit number and all it says is, you know, 123456 pinged at this time and then at this location."

Schools started passing out the Zpass cards last week.

Each rider has a card with their bus number and card number. they scan it getting on and off the bus.

Only Harlow's has access to the exact location of every student, so it's very important children don't lose the card.

"Harlow's has been working with Bismarck Public Schools for over 30 years. The implementation of the Zpass is just a furthering and strengthening of the relationship to safeguard the precious cargo we haul," says Rick Kramlich.

Schools say the best way to secure the card is to attach it to your child's back pack.

The Zpass program's original start date was last Monday. But it's been moved to this upcoming Monday, February 10th.
