Convention Teaches Farming Business

Posted: Updated:
Across the country there has been an increase in the return rate of young people finishing their education and returning to their family farms.  But creating a successful farming business can be challenging.

At the 2014 North Dakota Farm Bureau's convention in Minot, young farmers and ranchers learned the skills and practices to become as successful as possible. Over the past five years, it's been a positive time for the agricultural industry, but lower prices and higher interest rates now threaten that.  To overcome the challenges, producers are being advised to run their farms and ranches like CEO's.

"A well managed farm can be as successful if not more successful than any other business," says Professor of Economics, Dr. Mike Boehlje. "Now the average doesn't do all that well, but well managed farm operations can be very successful financially."

Farmers and ranchers looking for more information and resources can visit the North Dakota Farm Bureau's website at, www.ndfb.org.
