Bill Helps Low Income Families

Posted: Updated:

The Chairman of the Williams County Commission says the farm bill isn't really a farm bill. Dan Kalil calls it a food security bill. He says that 80 percent of this bill deals with a safety net for low income earners.

"Grab any farmer at the gas pump. They would tell you that they would just assume that there not being a farm program, and that they want to be left alone to make a living by themselves without government intervention or government programs," says County Commission Chairman Kalil.

Kalil says that farmers and ranchers need a farm bill to make sure that there is a safety net through downturns, drought and natural disasters.
