Ag Expo Reflects Farming Changes

Posted: Updated:

From seeds to crops and rotations to insurance, more goes into farming than you might think. That includes what kinds of machinery farmers use to harvest their crops.

When wholesale distributors come to the Ag Expo, their products reflect the changes in the agriculture industry across North Dakota as well as the country.

Over the past 25 years, crops have changed around the state. A place that once dominated by small grains, now includes crops like corn, soybeans and canola.

Distributors at the Expo say they must work to meet the demands of that ever-changing farming market.

"We've had to adapt," says Russ Wiese, a district sales manager for wholesale distributor General Implement.  "We've gotten a lot of manufacturers from Iowa, Illinois, down the corn belt, who produce product for those guys down there. We've had to take on that just to try to satisfy the customer's needs up here in the northern area plains," he says.

Wiese also says that the Ag Expo has an educated audience, as many people do their research on what kinds of farming equipment they need before attending.
