Tech Talk: UBOOLY

A new toy is hitting the market. And it's helping kids learn everything from math to Spanish.

Kids can now learn how to speak Spanish from a furry friend. Ubooly is a free educational app that talks and listens to kids. The app works on iPhone and Android devices. And it creates a new and unique play experience for kids ages 1-9.

"They can learn stories. They can learn about the stars and astronomy. The sky is the limit with what you can learn from Ubooly," says Ryan Burnett, Ubooly.

Stuffed animals come in several sizes, and when you drop your smart device inside, the animal comes to life. Children can talk to the critter and direct the play session.

"When you're watching your kid play with Ubooly, they're engaged in what we call active play. And what that means is they're using their brain, they're thinking. They're using their imagination, their creativity. And in a lot of cases, they're physically active on their pretend adventures. They're running around pretending they're exploring a cave. They're trying to find the Loch Ness monster," says Burnett.

The company will be releasing two new modes this year. Family mode offers trivia and games that encourage families to play together. And toddler mode, which will be released next month, offers unique experiences for children two years and younger.

You can download the free app from the Apple and Google Play stores. And the stuffed animals can be ordered online for $36. For more information on Ubooly, go to Ubooly.com.
