Warford to be Dean of UMary's School of Business

Posted: Updated:

A well kept secret was finally let out at the University of Mary.

Bismarck Mayor John Warford announced he wouldn't be running for re-election.

Moments later his new job title was announced.

The University of Mary embraced Bismarck mayor John Warford as its new dean for the Gary Tharaldson School of Business.

"John's passion for young people and their success will find its home and flourish here at America's leadership University," says University of Mary President, Monsignor James Shea.

Warford has big plans and says a business school shouldn't just be about creating a student who's interested in the bottom line and generating profits.

"I hope to have collaboration, innovative partnerships with local businesses and global entities. I hope to bring a thought that business should be the force of good in society and that we as business people serve society through business," says John Warford.

It's more than just studying, projects and tests for the new dean.

"You've won the lottery of life. Because you will have a chance to spend four years in an institution that will number one, teach you to make a living and secondly it will teach you to live," says Warford.

Warford is no stranger to education. He's been involved with all the colleges in the city, and his dad was the dean of business for Bemidji State University in Minnesota.

Warford will still work part time as an orthodontist and his new job as dean starts in June.
