House Passes Farm Bill

Posted: Updated:

The farm bill cleared yet another hurdle.

This morning it passed out of the House of Representatives with 251 votes. The legislation provides enhances the crop insurance program by expanding coverage choices for farmers, saves taxpayers over $23 billion in mandatory federal spending, consolidates programs and reforms the food stamp program.

Representative Kevin Cramer praised the House for passing the bill, but says he still has a few concerns.

"About the tying of the conservation compliance as a condition of the participation of the crop insurance program. I worry that it's going to add burdensome regulations for North Dakota farmers and put them at the whim of the unreasonable bureaucracy that enforces them," says Representative Kevin Cramer.

The bill is expected to go to the Senate within the next week.
