Real Estate Company Looks to Expand Lincoln Business

Posted: Updated:

Between the years 2000 and 2012 Lincoln's population grew by 60 percent, and it's not showing any signs of stopping. That residential increase sparked the interest of some commercial developers.

"In this particular area you have a fast growing residential area," said Kyle Holwagner, the commercial realtor. "You've got an exciting new elementary school, you've already got some businesses built into their community, so the market obviously has created a demand which supports the opportunity."

Holwagner is the commercial realtor for the planned Lincoln City Center, a 7-acre multi-million dollar retail center located in the heart of the growing city. And residents say they are hoping to see some specific things.

"Well a hardware store would be nice, a salon and a tanning salon, things like that," said John Steele.

Steele has owned John's Food Store for 34 years and says he isn't worried about the new center taking away any business, since most people make the 15 minute trip to Bismarck to do their heavy shopping.

"I mean the people that are here now will like it, and if it'll help more people move here, I really don't know, they're going to move here anyway," said Steele.

The Center is just South of the brand new elementary school, and the first building will be a strip mall with room for three to five businesses. Holwagner says he's also hoping budding businesses will see this as an opportunity.

"We're seeing a lot of younger people that want to run their own businesses and with that it gives them that opportunity to lease something and have a nice store front  have some nice signage," said Holwagner.

Holwagner says that he has had interest from a national retailer as well as several restaurants looking to expand into the growing community.
