Senators Push For Keystone Pipeline

Posted: Updated:

Republicans in the U.S. Senate push for construction of the Keystone XL pipeline prior to the President's State of The Union Address coming up on Tuesday.

And Senator John Hoeven is one of them. He and 44 other Republican Senators signed a letter sent to the President, urging him to hold his promise of making a decision about the pipeline by the end of 2013.

"This is about more energy for our country. This a is about needed infrastructure to us move our oil to market. This is about jobs. More than 40,000 jobs by the State Department's own figures. This is about working with Canada to create energy independence in our country, North American Energy independence so we can tell the Mideast, forget it. We don't need your oil. Americans overwhelmingly approve this project," says Hoeven.

Hoeven said the Senate is gaining more support for the project. It needs 60 "yes" votes to take the decision on the XL pipeline away from the president.
