Don't Buy It Until We Try It: Trusty Cane

Posted: Updated:

As we age, many of us need extra help getting from place to place. But, walkers can be bulky and canes can fall down easily. Well, there may be a sturdy cane you can trust. In this week's "Don't Buy It, Until We Try It," I tried out the Trusty Cane.

To get around, Jean Brown usually uses some type of cane or walker.

"I can walk without, but I like security."

But, for Brown, it's taken some getting used to feel comfortable using a cane.

"Instead of left, right.  I got to go right, left," says Brown.

To hopefully make getting around a little easier, we decided to try out the Trusty Cane.  It sells for around $20 and promises to be a sturdy folding cane.

Initially, Brown was a little skeptical of the product.

"It looked like it might be too much," says Brown.  "I might stumble on my feet on it.  It's too fat on the bottom."

We opened it up and checked it out.

"It looks real sturdy," says Brown.

The folding design of the Trusty Cane makes set-up easy. The four pieces are connected, so all Brown had to do was pull and it snapped together.

And, Brown didn't waste any time, she was walking around her room in no time. After a couple of laps, Brown was ready to take a break. But, she wasn't sold on the Trusty Cane just yet.

"I don't know, I would have to try it for a day," say Brown.

While Brown wasn't sure if she fully trusted the Sturdy Cane or not, we asked Steve Mays to try it out.

"Well, I think it's geared towards anyone who is a little unstable and needs some stability," says Mays.

Mays has broken both hips in the past and while he doesn't usually need a cane, he's not opposed to getting a little extra help either. And, after walking around his room several times, he wouldn't let go of the Trusty Cane.

The Trusty Cane is portable, easy to use, and set up.  My favorite feature is the built in LED lights. This would be great for night time use when you get up to go to the bathroom. Just click the little button and the Trusty Cane lights up.

So, this week's "Don't Buy It, Until We Try It," earns a thumbs up.
