Stenehjem Hires Prosecutor to Handle Drug Crimes

Posted: Updated:

With the increased population it's not surprising that there is also an increase in crime in some areas, which is why Attorney General Wayne Stenehjem says he is going hire a federal prosecutor who will handle drug cases in the oil patch. Stenehjem says it isn't the number of drug cases that is as concerning, but the type.

"It used to be individuals who were committing these offenses on down the chain, and pretty soon you came to the low level distributor. Now, we're seeing some of that trafficking coming directly from the places where these narcotics enter the United States. So, the complexity of the cases, the type of cases are becoming much more serious," says Stenehjem.

He hopes to have the position filled by this spring.
