Tech Talk: Allegiant Travel Goes Paperless

Posted: Updated:

Airline passengers across the state now have a new and more efficient way to board.

Mobile boarding applications are helping airline passengers skip the lines across the nation.
And the technology is now available in North Dakota.

The Allegiant Travel Company is going paperless.

The airline is now offering mobile boarding passes to passengers. A service that was once unavailable in North Dakota.

"We were able to work with the Bismarck airport and the TSA there and get a mobile scanner and get that approved with the TSA," says Justin Ralenkotter, Allegiant Air. "So, not only can passengers use a mobile boarding pass to go through security with our flights, but any of the air carriers that serve Bismarck that offer the mobile boarding pass service will be able to use their boarding passes to get through there as well."

The application has been in use at major airports for more than an a year. But Bismarck was one of 55 airports offering Allegiant flights that didn't have the necessary equipment. And now, every airport Allegiant flies into is capable of providing the service.

The app sends your airline ticket directly to your phone. And workers scan a barcode before you board.

"It's part of our Allegiant To-Go App, which is available on the Apple and Android devices. So, passengers can just download that app on their phone, and they're able to check in, and pay to check a bag, and select seats. So, it's a great app. And it's a big time saver," says Ralenkotter.

Passengers can use the app to check a bag at the last minute. And if you're not checking a bag, you can go straight to the security check-in.

Ralenkotter says going paperless saves the airline money, which allows them to pass the savings onto their customers.
