Canada Pushes for Keystone Pipeline

Posted: Updated:

Canada's foreign affairs minister paid a visit to Washington today, calling for a prompt decision on the Keystone XL pipeline.

John Baird met with North Dakota's senators, John Hoeven and Heidi Heitkamp, who strongly support of the pipeline project that would deliver Bakken crude oil and Canadian tar sands oil to refineries in Texas.

"We need to move energy to market. We are going to produce more energy and we are going to get more energy from Canada. So, we need pipelines as well as rail and trucks. We need all of the above. And remember pipelines will help take some of the congestion off rail and off trucks," says Hoeven.

"We're urging the president to make a decision and make the right decision. For not only our energy future and the energy future of North America, but also to have the decision for national security in the United States," says Heitkamp

The State Department is close to completing an environmental review that should be released after the President's State of the Union Address.
