Highway Patrol Reports Arrests and Fatalities

Posted: Updated:

2013 was a busy year for the North Dakota Highway Patrol. Troopers made almost 2,000 DUI arrests and almost 1,000 drug-related arrests.

On a positive note, there were fewer highway fatalities. One hundred forty-eight people died in traffic accidents, compared to 170 fatalities in 2012.

"So many of the fatality crashes involved one vehicle roll-overs where the person that dies is ejected from the vehicle.  Having that seat-belt on will keep you in the vehicle, will keep you restrained, will keep you from bouncing around inside the vehicle, even if you aren't ejected," says Captain Gary Orluck, North Dakota Highway Patrol.

To better promote safety through education, troopers gave 386 safety presentations to schools and commercial vehicle companies throughout the state last year.
