Leaders Address Oil Industry Conflict of Interest Concerns

Posted: Updated:

House and Senate leaders request the Industrial Commission take a new approach to ensure the public's health, safety and support is not jeopardized while the state's oil industry grows.

In a letter addressed to the Governor, Attorney General and the Agriculture Commissioner, the Senate and House Minority Leaders, Mac Schneider and Kenton Onstad asked that the Industrial Commission no longer allow the director of mineral resources to promote and regulate the oil industry.

The letter stated that the House and Senate found the role to be an "irreconcilable conflict of interest."
