North Dakota Celebrates 125 Years

Posted: Updated:

Honoring 125 years of statehood, capitol leaders and North Dakota residents had a small celebration in Memorial Hall.

The capitol is hosts events all year with performances by notable local artists, food, games and more.

Performances by artists that love their home state, Tigirlily and Chuck Suchy. Unveiling the official seal for the 125 statehood anniversary and close to 100 people in attendance. This is only the beginning.

In memorial hall, both Governor Dalrymple and Lt. Governor Wrigley spoke at the first of several celebrations for North Dakota's 125th anniversary.

Month of planning went into the day's event. From searching for the best North Dakota artist to sing at the events.

"We're definitely very proud of where we come from and so that's why we wrote the song North Dakota. And we're so glad to be here today. Have the song represent the state. We feel good that they are asking us to have our song represent the state and share the joy of being from North Dakota," says Tigirlily members Kendra and Krista.

A Eric Falde, West Fargo, won the logo contest and today, his design was on display.

"There's something about it [the logo] that when you look at it, it does resonate. Not simply because it says North Dakota. I think it's something, I think it unifies people across the state," says Lt. Govornor, Drew Wrigley.

The state will be celebrating its anniversary throughout the year. Additional information can be found at www.history.nd.gov and www.luvnd.com.
