Grants Help with Senior Center's Renovation Costs

Posted: Updated:

Today, the Parker Senior Center was presented with a $100,000 grant from the Otto Bremer Foundation. This grant, along with the $400,000, is used to help with remodeling the center.

The Minot Commission on Aging provides senior citizens with assistance so they can remain in their homes as long as possible.

"There are so many senior citizen groups that will now have a place to meet. Right now, with the coffee shop and stuff, it's great for the seniors to come over and have coffee, to have get-togethers for lunch and that kind of stuff. The meals on wheels program did around 80,000 a year. This is where they are prepared. And then, the seniors can come here at noon to have these meals. So, it's a great place for the seniors," says Mike Nilson, Minot Commission on Aging.

This is the first major renovation since 1983.  The center is hoping to raise a total of $800,000.
