Ruth Meiers Appeals Rezoning Idea

Posted: Updated:

The Ruth Meiers Hospitality House appeals to the Bismarck City Commission tomorrow on the former Baptist Home rezoning proposal.

The controversy surrounding the rezoning of the former facility from residential to commercial has been going on for months.

The Bismarck Planning and Zoning Commission turned down the request, but the City Commission agreed to hear both sides at a public hearing.

Neighbors voiced opposition to the addition of a soup kitchen and food pantry, saying it will bring dangers to the area.

"If this unfortunately doesn't happen, we are looking at ways that we can continue to serve the community especially the hungry that's a big issue in the community," says Ruth Meiers director, Jaci Bugbeeand. "So, we're looking at other locations that are near the Baptist Home because it makes it easier for us to be able to transport food from that wonderful kitchen that the Baptist Home has. "

Reporter Nina Carter has the outcome of the meeting tomorrow night.
