Bookstore Owner Sells Inventory

Posted: Updated:

It's been a part of the community for more than 30 years. And now, The Used Bookstore in Bismarck is clearing it's inventory.

For thirty years, Sharon Jesz has been helping bookworms find a bargain. And with more than 50,000 titles to choose from, her store has something for everyone.

"It's comfortable. It has lots of different offerings.  Should be able to find something," says customer Dale Heinert.

But, The Used Book Store may not be around for much longer. Jesz is selling the books and all the fixtures. She's asking for $15,000.

"It's a good business, I think. And there are many people, customers, who have told me that, 'Oh,  you should be online. You have a lot of good things.' So, I know, financially, it would be good for someone," says Jesz.

She's never taken her business online. And how could she? She doesn't even have a computer in the store.

But, she's shared her love of books with everyone who's walked through the door. And she's never hired an employee to do it for her.

"I always have liked books, probably because when I was a kid I didn't have a lot of books, as with a lot of people. And the few you had, you read and reread many times."

But not every book will go.

"'Gone with the Wind' is a really popular title, of course. And the name of the book was 'The Body and Health.' And it has the beans inside. And, like I said, I'm sure it was a practical joke that someone made it.

The book was a gift from one of her customers. One of many she'll never forget.

Jesz says the store will be open through the end of January. It's her hope that whoever buys the books will keep the store open.
