Taxable Sales Increased in 2013

Posted: Updated:

Taxable sales were up once again in the state for the third quarter of 2013. The tax commissioner says the months of July, August and September were up $166 million from the third quarter 2012, an  increase of 2.44 percent.

Thirteen of 15 sectors reported growth the only two that had a decline were mining and oil extraction, down 19-percent and construction, which was down by two percent.

"2011 and 2012 were huge construction and build out years for infrastructure, in the western part of the state, and we did expect that those one time expenditures will start to slow down. We are starting to see some of that. But, we are going to continue to see growth in the western part of the state," says Tax Commissioner, Ryan Rauschenberger.

Retail, which is the largest sector, reported the most growth, more than 6-percent from the third quarter in 2012.
