Colleges Expand Veteran Education Program

Posted: Updated:

Minot State University is just one of several higher education institutions who partnered with North Dakota State University to expand their Veteran Education Training Program.

It's a service to help veterans who returned from overseas, or for those who haven't been a student in some years, re-acclimate to a school setting. Starting January 13, veterans can take online refresher courses at home or on campuses while they decide which college to attend.

"I think that's something we always need to keep in mind, is the debt of gratitude and all that we owe veterans.  We feel strongly about providing this service to them, so we hope people will take advantage," stated Dr. Dick Jenkins, Vice President of Student Affairs at Minot State University.

Veterans in the area interested in registering for the online prep courses can contact the Student Affairs office at Minot State at 701-858-3299.

The last census showed there were close to 56,000 veterans in the state. Out of that number, one-third were enrolled in college and only 20% earned a degree.
