Crews Prepare Planes for Takeoff in Extreme Cold

Posted: Updated:

Weather delays have really tried the patience of airline passengers. Some of them have been stuck in Minot for days, and the airport is playing catch up to get passengers where they need to be. However, they're still fighting the cold weather.

Snow, ice, sleet and rain does not stop crews from preparing the plane for takeoff. But safety is the top priority.

"In conditions like this, the key thing that all employees do is dress in layers. Multiple gloves. Multiple socks. Warm boots. Sometimes even hand warmers. Definitely face protection and head protection," says airport director Andy Solsvig.

Ground crews work outside for about 30 minutes and take turns warming up inside.
