St. Alexius Hosts Workshop for Seniors

Posted: Updated:

Going outside during the winter months can be a scary thing, especially for seniors who have a fear of falling.

Stepping On is a new program launched through St. Alexius. It's for anyone who is 65 years or older, has had a fall in the past year, is fearful of falling or lives at home and does not have dementia.

"It's been proven to reduce falls inside and outside of the home by over 30 percent. That's pretty significant. At this time of year it's so icy out, people are really afraid of falling," says Mary Catherine, St. Alexius. "It's a really great time to think about what are the fall hazards in my home, what are they outside my home?"

The next seven-week workshop begins Friday, January 10 and runs through February 21. Each session is from 1 to 3 p.m. at the St. Alexius' Technology and Education Center.

The cost is $20 for the full seven weeks for more information, contact Mary Catherine Ward at (701) 530-7755.
