Career Academy Hosts Science Fair

Posted: Updated:

High school seniors at the Bismarck Career Academy showed their technical genius today. At the Automation Project Presentation, they built machines and competed for prizes.

These students are truly the inventors of tomorrow. The air was electrifying, students proudly demonstrating the purpose of their projects. They created machines that cook food and shoot cans of pop to you. Those were just a few of the creative projects showcased today.

Looking at these machines, family members, classmates and judges agreed, all of these inventors are going to go far in field.

"It blew me away to see what these kids are cable of doing. And they're, you know, seniors in high school. To me, this should be stuff that they're doing in college," says parent Karen Roberts.

Students in the electronics program are a special group. This is the only program in the state offered to high school students.

Each of the small groups worked from Thanksgiving till presentation day, a little less than 3 months, thinking, building and working out the kinks.

"We're pretty nervous to start with because coming into this we didn't think it was going to work and we were all pretty nervous. And then it worked. I think the basket dumping kinda took all the stress off. And after that we were just like, from this to that. It was a lot easier, you know, that stress got taken off," says student Christian Seime.

Christian, Mason and Jesse put in class time and an additional 50 hours on the Pillsbury Dominator, a doughnut making machine. The machine never properly worked until they presented it to the judges.

"It makes me proud. He never ceases to amaze me," says Roberts.

The boys caught that break. And ended up taking home the grand prize, each received a BSC scholarship, tools, and tons of snacks.

Once students graduate from the electronics program, they can earn a two year Electronics degree from Bismarck State College in just one year.
