Dakota Zoo Animals Brave the Cold

Posted: Updated:

While most of us won't be outside very much on days like today, some animals at the zoo are doing just that.

Many animals at the Dakota Zoo, such as the mountain lions, wolves, foxes and lions don't need to go inside, even when the temperatures dip well below zero.

The zoo director says the animals that are vulnerable in this weather have already been brought in for the winter. The others just need extra, food, water and shelter to be able to get by in the sub zero temps.

"We've got a great animal staff here and they're down doing the same things they do everyday, taking care of the animals and making sure that they're taken care of. So we're very thankful to have a great staff," says Assistant Zoo Director Rod Fried.

The zoo has been closed the last couple days due to the weather, but Fried says if the weather gets better, like it should, then they will re-open next weekend.
