Cold Weather Doesn't Stop Deliveries

Posted: Updated:

Between football games and frigid weather, the Dominos Pizza on Washington Street in Bismarck says it's the busiest time of year.

"Especially this cold spell, nobody wants to go outside, and go anywhere, so our drivers do keep very busy and they do a lot of behind the scenes work here in the store as well as going out and braving the cold," says store manager Ted Hulm.

For weekend day shifts, Hulm says they have about three or four drivers working at a time, and give them special instructions in order to keep warm.

Our drivers have to dress a little bit warmer, we're requiring that they keep their vehicles running sitting outside so they don't have to warm them up again and just take precautions out there it's very cold," says Hulm.

Brent Moch is one of those drivers braving the cold today, and he says he just tries not to think about it, but the worst part is waiting.

"When you walk up to someone's doorstep and gotta sit there for a couple minutes when the wind's blowing and it's below zero weather, it's not very fun," says Moch.

Moch says that he thinks deliveries definitely increase on a day like today, and sometimes customers can get impatient.

"Yeah we get the occasional complaint that it takes a long time, but its usually when were on the last stop of a run and we had about three or four orders before," says Moch.

He says that although the runs may take a little longer, new warming bags keep the pizza's fresh.

"If anything they stay pretty warm most people cant even tell the difference between out of the oven and in the bag," says Moch.

Overall Moch says he doesn't mind the job and dealing with the cold is just part of the job.
