North Dakota's Population is on the Rise

Posted: Updated:

North Dakota's population is booming right along with the economic boom. The Census Bureau now estimates the state has more than 723,000 people.  That's an increase of more than 22,000 since last year. And prior to that, the state's population peaked at 681,000 in 1930.

"I think this all is kind of expected in some ways obviously our economy is very strong, the economy of the rest of the country has not been that strong. So it's certainly aided us in getting people here filling those workforce needs," says Census office manager Kevin Iverson.

The largest demographic increase is people between the ages of 19 and 34. The numbers do not include those who are living in temporary housing in the oil patch.
