Main Street Minute: Gourmet Chef

Posted: Updated:

If you've been driving along Main Street in Minot, you may have noticed all of the new businesses. But, one business that's called Main Street home for several years is making some changes for the New Year.

Gourmet Chef owner Denise Lindbo has had her business for 20 years. Throughout that time, she's made a move to her existing corner location on Main Street.

"When we first moved into this spot from the spot that we started out in, which was about 500 square feet, when we moved into this spot which was 2,200 square feet, we thought this was it. We're never going to get any bigger," says Lindbo.

However, with more people moving into the Minot community, that means there are more people shuffling into her store.

"The last several years have been elbow to elbow. We've been kind of crunched in," says Lindbo.

So, in order to alleviate the close quarters while keeping their existing location, Lindbo decided it was time to expand the business.

With the expansion, the existing kitchen will no longer be here. They're going to knock down the back wall and build a new kitchen three times the size.

"And, it's going to be great. It's going to be huge. It's going to be a bar style kitchen so the participants of the classes won't be in a classroom style. They'll actually be sitting at the counter with the chef," says Lindbo.

Currently, Gourmet Chef offers cooking classes two to four times per month. But, with the new designated kitchen, Lindbo hopes to offer classes on a weekly basis.

The goal is to have the expansion completed by March 2014. To learn more about how you can sign up for cooking classes, you can log onto their website at www.gchef.com.
