North Dakota Airline Reaches Milestone

Posted: Updated:

North Dakota Airports have once again hit a major milestone, and this year, they reached the accomplishment a month sooner.

The Aeronautics Commission reports that the state's airports reached the one million passenger mark in November of this year.  The state first achieved a feat in 2012 during the month of December.

Passenger numbers are up from east to west, and airport directors say the passenger increases reflect the economic growth seen throughout the state.  North Dakota airports average over 90,000 boardings per month.  And it all comes down to supply and demand.

"It's going to take a few years to work that out and get the infrastructure built, but what we can see in the long-term is likely additional markets, possibly new airlines and hopefully additional routes, things like that. So, people have more options when they travel," commented Minot International Airport Director Andy Solsvig.

Total commercial boardings in North Dakota for November were 92,661, up from about 85,000 in 2012 for an 8.88 percent increase
