Triple A Reports Rise in Travel

Posted: Updated:

Whether you're heading next door, across the street, or to the other side of the country this Christmas Eve, you won't be alone.

Nearly 30-percent of all Americans, 94 and a half million people, are expected to go 50 miles or more by year's end. North Dakota's Triple A says the rise in travel continues a five year trend, and that economic growth and steady gas prices are major incentives for traveling by car.

"In North Dakota we expect nearly 40 percent to travel during the holiday season, so it will be busy and it will be likely a record that we haven't seen before, this will be the fifth consecutive year increase in travel," says Gene LaDoucer, media relations.

Ladoucer says that while many people will hit the road for Christmas day the next major travel holiday will be in the New Year on January 2.
