Crank Caddy Helps Ice Fishers

Posted: Updated:
Even with bitterly cold temperatures, plenty of anglers will be out in the ice this Christmas. And a handful of men are doing their best to make sure those people have continued success this winter.

They've invented a unique alternative to the traditional tackle box.

Eleven years ago, seven friends decided to make their fishing outings more successful by organizing and storing their crank baits more efficiently. Since then, the idea has earned the group a U.S. patent for "The Crank Caddy."

"It's organized and basically sells itself," says Crank Caddy CEO Mark Ryckman.

The design is simple, and the Crank Caddy is starting to make a name for itself in the Midwest, but there's potential for national appeal.

"We're hoping it will expand and blow up. We have gone to sports shows, etcetera. We're hoping when this hits the bass fishing area it should work for them too," says Crank Caddy Office Manager Ralph Hanson.

You can find the Crank Caddy at Scheels and Cabela's, but the product is assembled at the old Pollock school.

The guys actually work in the old Home Ec room, and ship from here too.

"Part of my job is to promote Campbell County, and getting Pollock back on the map is good for the county," says Hanson.

Crank Caddy employs two part time employees. The company is working on a few other new products as well.

You can also find the Crank Caddy at most local bait shops.
