Mall Hosts Christmas Concert

Posted: Updated:

Last minute shoppers at Dakota Square Mall in Minot got a special treat Saturday when area tuba and euphonium players came together to performed some classic Christmas carols.

The group performed an array of holiday hits, from "White Christmas" to "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer."

The performers spanned a wide range of ages and musical backgrounds, from local high schoolers to players in their 70s.

Remarkably, the group only had one rehearsal Saturday morning before putting on their show, but that's all they needed to perform.

Gordon Troxel, who has conducted school and community groups throughout his life, says it's great how many people braved the cold and came out to perform and to listen.

"I look out there and everybody's smiling. They're really enjoying it. It's a break. It's a good break," he said. "It's just fun doing that for the community. And everyone comes here. There was a good audience here. And all the players that come in. It was 17 below in some of these places, and they still came."

This was the fifteenth year for the Christmas tuba and euphonium performance. Certain members of the group even received gifts from the conductor for being the youngest or oldest performer.
