Former Mandan Resident Wins National Award

Posted: Updated:

A fifth grade science teacher in Belle Fourche, South Dakota has won a national award for her teaching.

Ann Anderson grew up in Mandan, and says she applied for the Presidential Award for Excellence in Science during the spring of 2012. The application required her to write a fifteen page paper, send a 45 minute video tape of her teaching a lesson and three letters of recommendation. On Friday she got the news that she was selected as the winner and she will be heading to Washington D.C. with her husband.

"From what I understand, it will be five days of touring Washington D.C. and I think there's a dinner involved. I hope I get to meet the secretary of education and stuff like that. So, it will be quite interesting," says science teacher, Ann Anderson.

Two winners were selected from each state, one in math and one in science. She says she may even get to meet the president while she is in Washington. The date for that trip has not yet been set.
